GETTING TO AND FROM THE CATTLE DRIVE

There are many ways to join your 2007 Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive tour from Adelaide and Alice Springs. Coober Pedy (serviced by Manguri train stop and Coober Pedy airport) is located 842kms from Adelaide and Roxby Downs (serviced by Olympic Dam airport) is located 564km from Adelaide and are the two main stopover points on route to the Cattle Drive.

FROM ADELAIDE

By Air


Regional Express Airlines (REX) is Australia's largest independent regional airline
Flights to and from Coober Pedy are recommended for Cattle Drive tour four. The following transfers are available:

  • Airport transfers to and/or from hotel accommodation
  • Coach transfers to and from your Cattle Drive campsite 

Flights to and from Roxby Downs (Olympic Dam Airport) are recommended for Cattle Drive tours five to seven. The following transfers are available:

Great Southern Railway - The Ghan
Experience one of the most fascinating rail journeys in the world from Adelaide to Manguri rail siding (46 kilometres west of Coober Pedy) on the legendary Ghan. You can experience The Ghan on Cattle Drive tour four. Transfers to and from Manguri rail siding to your accommodation, and to and from your accommodation to your Cattle Drive campsite are available. Rail packages including accommodation, tours and transfers are also available.

Drovers' Express
The Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive official tour bus service is known as the Drovers' Express. This service has been provided to ensure you arrive at your Cattle Drive campsite  with ease and on time. All meals and accommodation (where necessary) are provided, all you need to do is sit back and enjoy the  scenery. Drovers' Express will collect passengers from a selection of Adelaide city hotels. Use this opportunity to forge friendships with fellow travellers. On the return leg, sit back and reflect on the memories of your tour and the images in your mind that will last forever.      The Official Cattle Drive Hotel, the Hyatt Regency Adelaide is offering special pre and post Cattle Drive accommodation packages and will have a dedicated check-in lounge for each Drovers' Express departure.

On the Drovers' Express services where accommodation is required, clean, air-conditioned, comfortable twin share motel/hotel rooms are provided. Meals include a fully cooked breakfast, lunch including sandwiches and fruit, and a three course dinner - buffet style or fixed menu. Vegetarian options and special dietary requests are catered for. Cold drinking water will be readily available while on Drovers' Express. Morning and afternoon breaks are scheduled on most tours at a local shop where you can purchase a cool drink or a snack if required.

All coaches are fully equipped with audio commentary facilities and air-conditioned for your comfort. All drivers are fully accredited with current First Aid Certificates and Outback travel experience. Drovers' Express packages including accommodation, tours and transfers are available.
